Quick Description

A Material defines how a 3D model looks in AR. It controls its surface, its texture, its color, and its reflectivity.

How It Works

Materials in augmented reality often use PBR maps to simulate real-world surface properties. These can help to determine whether something looks rough or metallic, or glossy or matte.

Example

When purchasing a new coffee maker, Helen first wants to see it in her space. She scans a QR code and sees it appear in front of her. The aluminum PBR material is reflective and looks perfect in her space. She changes the accent material from black to blue and hits ‘purchase’ when she is satisfied.

Why It Matters

Material settings affect realism and visual consistency across AR scenes.
