A Groundbreaking art installation with Voidz, IDFK Gallery, Qualcomm and Trace

The Trace team is delighted to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with renowned digital artist VOIDZ and Qualcomm AR headsets at the IDFK Gallery in Toronto. Together, the teams are pushing the boundaries of augmented reality art by bringing VOIDZ’s iconic digital and VFX work into physical institutions and immersive AR for the very first time.
The exhibition, Urban Decay, explores the ever-changing nature of the modern city as it is continuously built up and simultaneously deconstructed. The AR installation is tied directly to the gallery space, allowing visitors to experience the piece through projection, phones, iPads, and even AR headsets.
Voidz is known for his surrealist digital videos and his collaborations with Drake around Toronto. In this first foray into immersive, gallery-based art, he has filled the physical space with concrete, brick and debris to choreograph a mesmerizing and world-bending experience. The debris swirls around the space to subvert the viewer’s sense of materiality and blend the digital and the real.

The Trace Creator App was the platform that allowed the tech and art to all come together. By utilizing Trace’s no-code AR creation tools, VOIDZ and the IDFK Gallery team were able to:
Trace's cross-platform compatibility helped the installation to reach audiences easily on mobile devices, tablets, and AR headsets. Visitors were able to access and see the 3D installation as well as 2D videos around the gallery on their iPhones and Android devices as well as the headsets. Despite the many devices, all visitors got to enjoy the immersive tech.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with VOIDZ, IDFK, and Qualcomm on this groundbreaking installation,” said Greg Tran, Co-Founder at Trace. “Our partnership represents an exciting convergence of art and technology, enabling artists to bring their digital creations into physical institutions. It’s a revolutionary step forward in art curation and audience engagement.”
This project shows how artists and institutions can use Trace bring traditional art and VFX into immerisve AR epxeriences. With these techniques, art, architecture, and AR can converge to redefine how audiences connect with and relate to digital content.

The Urban Decay exhibition helped to show how Trace can enable creators, galleries, art museums and brands to produce high-quality AR installations without code or specialized equipment. There are so many digital artists on instagram or the web who cannot share their content in a real gallery... The project stands as proof that immersive art can now live in real-world spaces to help promote these artists and give them in-person recognition that they deserve.
For artists, Trace represents a powerful new medium for merging imagination and environment. For institutions, it offers a scalable path to AR-driven curation and engagement.
Visitors can explore Urban Decay at the IDFK Gallery in Toronto until July 8, and discover a new era of augmented reality art and immersive design powered by Trace
